THEATRE

9th & 10th Grade

Freshmen and sophomores will not yet be part of the academy, but they will be working on the content used for entrance into the academy. In 9th grade, students may participate in Summer Theatre to prepare them for becoming an H-F Theatre student. Students will take Introduction to Theatre to lay the groundwork for a focused study in theatre arts. In Introduction to Theatre, students will learn how to effectively work in an ensemble, study major acting concepts as taught through rehearsed improvisation, and work on scripted scenes and monologues to better comprehend character and relationship on stage. Students will also learn over 130 key vocabulary terms in Theatre.

In 10th Grade, students will develop basic theatre skills into more professional and polished works. In Advanced Acting & Performance, students will work on scripted scenes and rehearse polished scripted works. The course will feature a unit on adaptation as students work to perform the EDDA Coffeehouse. The conclusion of the course is a fully staged performance public play. Students may take summer theatre and / or Leaders in Theatre Ensemble (LiTE) by audition/ interview going into their junior year.

By now, all MVP students should have many extracurricular experiences in productions. Students should also be members of the International Thespian Society.

Students in the first year of the academy will enroll in  Aesthetics & the Creative Process Across the Arts, an MVP exclusive course. At the end of the year, a portfolio review will take place with the student to assess their yearly development in theatre arts - either as actors, technicians, writers or directors.
